There were buildings and cars everywhere, loads of people walking past… wait, this isn’t a park. Nope, it’s Downtown Austin! This is a rare occurrence on my website..
Any of you who have been a client of mine for a while, or have at least been following my feeds know that I mainly photograph my sessions in parks full of beautiful nature. For this session, that wasn’t the case, it was a little outside of my comfort zone but I was pretty excited to see what we could capture. I’ve been in Austin for nearly four years now and if we’re being completely honest, I have rarely ventured downtown. However, every time I do go downtown I always love all the older architecture that there is to see; and photograph!
With that being said, I was able to find some greenery to do some shots nearby, of course.
I was really excited to have Kaitlyn and Cory back in front of my lens again so soon. If you’ve been keeping up with my blogs, you’ll remember their session with their fur babies back in December (click here to view it!). This session doesn’t include their gorgeous fur-babies, but it is such a beautiful portrait session… It all started when Kaitlyn showed me a photo of a wall mural she had found downtown. I loved it. It wasn’t one I had seen before, and since they are pretty popular in downtown Austin, I was surprised by that. It seemed perfect for their session, and something really cute to pose against.
“The only magic I still believe in is love.”
As we left the wall, I saw the older movie theater and wanted to really capture the essence of downtown, the cars – the people, all of it. When shooting in this area, you just have to embrace all aspects that come with it, right? I know Cory probably thought I was crazy, wanting to shoot them from across the road as they stood under the sign, but Kaitlyn could see my vision! I got them centered just right with hand gestures from a far (hahaha). However, I somehow lucked out and got several shots with no people or cars passing by..
Next we headed to a Church I had seen when we first arrived, but had a lot of people outside of it when we first passed by. It was so gorgeous, I simply couldn’t pass up the opportunity. The massive front wood door was beautiful. Churches, older ones especially, always have such stunning architecture, I love photographing people in front of them.. Or in this case, off to the side of them as well.
While most of these are fairly posed photos, I do love those sweet candid moments that I am able to capture without my clients always noticing..
The next spot we shot just goes to show that when you hire a professional photographer, you have to just trust their vision. You’ve seen their work on their website, you know the images are going to come out great. Some of the best shots us photographers get are from our clients giving us free-range to do what we want with our artistic vision.. Poor, poor, Kaitlyn and Cory hahaha. Six flights of stairs later……
I’d like to say it was worth it, but we found an elevator as we were leaving… hahaha. Whoops!
Kaitlyn and Cory, thank you so much for letting me be a part of capturing more memories for you both. You’re such an amazing couple and spending time with you both is always loads of fun. I really appreciate you both trusting my ideas for photos, even through all the adventures we have haha. I look forward to our next photo-adventure together!
Wonderful pics, Maegan. Stunning architectural variety too.
[…] find this too odd as I had asked if they could help me out back in January when I had to do some location scouting downtown. I agreed, it was a pretty genius idea, especially since Cory is not the biggest fan of photos. […]
