Samye-Ling Tibetan Centre Creative Photoshoot | South West Scotland Photographer | Dumfriesshire

“Located in a peaceful valley on the banks of the river Esk in Scotland, Kagyu Samye Ling was the first Tibetan Buddhist Centre to have been established in the West. Founded in 1967 and currently under the guidance of Abbot Lama Yeshe Losal Rinpoche, Samye Ling is part of Rokpa Trust, a registered charity which has three main areas of activity: spiritual, humanitarian aid, and Tibetan medicine and therapy.”

“Prayer wheels have been used in the East for thousands of years. They are used to increase Peace and Harmony, relieve the suffering of all beings and enrich the environment. As the Prayer wheel turns it releases the power of the prayers contained within it. Prayer wheels are made in many different sizes. The smallest are hand held, the largest fill a whole room. Some are turned by hand, others are turned by wind or water.

These Prayer wheels are turning electrically, but can also be turned by hand: Each Prayer wheel holds over thirty two million mantras or prayers, printed on paper and blessed with consecrated saffron water. The Prayer Wheel is the physical representation of the Body Speech and Mind of Enlightenment – Perfect Wisdom & Compassion.

Traditionally Buddhists make aspirational prayers while turning the prayer wheels. Thus making a personal connection with ones own positive energy as well as sending the powerful blessing of the prayer wheel into our world.”
