This is how you know it’s about to be an awesome family session.. When I approached the Lavas family and suggested to use an abandoned barn as the location for their portraits. A barn I’d recently found, but hadn’t used for a session before.. Best part? Their reaction was beyond excited to go for it…

That’s every photographer’s dream!

It had been a warm day, not truly allowing us to enjoy it being November.. An hour before the start of the session the temperature suddenly dropped in Georgetown from the 70’s to the mid-50’s. The Lavas family and I were thankful for the cool crisp air we got to enjoy. It definitely made their awesome outfits more ‘weather appropriate’. The two boys, Eli and Lucas, dressed in sweaters and their sister, Ryan, wearing awesome red pants with an adorable vest. I love when kid’s outfits follow the style guide (which ensures that no one clashes with each other) but also allows their personality to show.

The Lavas family were a ton of fun! The youngest, Lucas, took his Grinch Christmas sweater role very seriously and wanted to showcase this in their Christmas sweater group photos. Pretending to be the Grinch was not Lucas’ only role on this day though.. He was definitely the comedian making everyone laugh and smile throughout the entire session.. Including myself of course! When it came time to take some portraits of Mum & Dad, Ryan stepped in as my goofy assistant to get some candid giggles out of them as they cuddled up against this awesome white wall (abandoned building number three at this location!).

The session time flew by as we all hung out by these abandoned buildings, capturing beautiful memories for the family to cherish for many years to come. As the oldest, Eli, pointed out – everyone driving past was definitely paying more attention to us taking these images in front of these building more than they were paying attention to driving.

Lavas family, thank you for hiring me to create these beautiful portraits of you all. Thank you for also trusting my crazy ideas enough to venture out to this new location and give it a shot! You guys are awesome, and I loved working with you all. You were so relaxed and just trusted my vision which always feels great as a photographer. Maybe next year you guys can bring your gorgeous Dane to be a part of the session! :)
