It was such a gorgeous afternoon for a photoshoot. I love when I show up for a session and know the sunset is going to be perfect for my client. It was exactly that for Maddi. When I first got an inquiry from Madeleine, I instantly loved her enthusiasm for her photoshoot and all the ideas she had for it! As an artist it’s always great getting to collaborate with people who have the same style as you. All her ideas were more of a boho styled theme in long grassy fields; just being in nature. These type of sessions are exactly what made my style develop into what it is today. I love capturing portraits of people while also showcasing beautiful aspects of nature; of course also including gorgeous natural light as well.
Before Maddi even got my style guide, I already knew her ideas would fit in with it perfectly. (Even if ‘boho’ isn’t your style, that’s okay – dressing up in whatever IS your style will work wonderfully!) Bringing things like fresh flowers, or a flower crown are perfect additions to a photoshoot for women and something I suggest within my style guide as well. Jewelry that can accent your outfit is also helpful (Maddi’s necklace was perfect for both of her outfits and the whole ‘theme’ of the session). If you’re not one for flowers, consider bringing a hat, maybe even some sunglasses, or anything that is part of a hobby you enjoy to use in your session. Props in this form are fun to have when you’re doing photos alone as it gives you something to pose with and makes it easier to change up posing.
As soon as I met Madeleine, she had a contagious happiness that consumes you. As a photographer it’s exciting to meet clients who are enthusiastic for their photoshoot, and who have ideas of their own but also trust your posing and styling ideas. Madeleine was definitely that client. Working with her felt more like working with a good friend that I had known for ages; it was easy to have fun and laugh throughout the session and capture so many beautiful images for her! I have been a photographer for over ten years now; I have been flown all over to photograph engagements, weddings, and portrait sessions of all kinds. However, it is still such an honor when clients have me travel to them, or travel a distance to me. Madeleine and her Mum drove to Georgetown from Houston. I’m so fortunate to have such amazing people like Maddi and her mum as clients. As an artist, it’s always special to hear that your work is worth people’s time to travel to you. The fact that Madeleine was such a dream client to work with made it that much more humbling.
When meeting new clients, I like to hear a little about their story, get to know them more as we’re walking through a location. Of course when I’m shooting senior portraits I always love getting to know how their high school experience was and if they have any plans for college yet. It’s extra special when I get to meet teens who impress me with their future plans. I’ve been so fortunate this year to meet many graduates who have surprised me with their ambition and future goals. Maddi’s response to my question definitely made me smile, and again proved just how special and kindhearted she was. Madeleine will be attending Texas A&M University in the fall of 2019, majoring in Molecular & Cell Biology on the pre-med track! She told me how she is passionate about oncogenic studies and cancer medicine. You can check out her Tedxyouth talk on a potential cure to cancer HERE!
Maddi, thank you so much for asking me to be a part of your senior portraits. I hope that you love these images as much as I do – and as much as I loved being a part of capturing them for you. You are truly a beautiful person; inside and out. It was a pleasure getting to plan out this session, meet and work with you. I know you are going to do amazing things while attending A&M as well as after you graduate! Thank you for taking the time to travel out to Georgetown, and for trusting me with choosing the location that made your inspiration photos come to life. Getting to meet you and your mum was truly an honor. You both were a lot of fun to work with and I hope to see you again in the future!
Congratulations on graduating!!!!!
